Back Muscle Pain - Some Causes And Treatments

If you have a weak body constitution and you avoid exercising your body as well, you may experience back muscle pain during pregnancy. Back pain is a very common phenomenon, with most pregnant women reporting some form of pregnancy back pain to their doctors at one time or the other during pregnancy.

In most cases, back pain disappears soon after delivery and can be treated with a little care at home. However, if you are careless, it can become a severe problem throughout your life.

Types Of Back Pain

Back muscle pain can be mild, acute or chronic. If you do not have a past history of back pain, then you too will experience only mild pain just like most of the pregnant women. However, if your back pain persists for a long duration and does not respond to any treatment or therapy, then you should immediately discuss back pain causes with your personal physician. Mild back pain vanishes within a few weeks of treatment and does not require any medical help. Acute pain lasts comparatively longer and requires proper treatment in consultation with a back pain therapist. Chronic pain lasts for a long period and requires regular consultation and treatment from a specialist in a hospital.

You can avoid back muscle pain from growing into a chronic problem if you diagnose the type of back pain that you have at an early stage. The moment you have some form of back pain at any stage of pregnancy, you should quickly start treatment with over the counter medicines. If the pain persists, then you can start some home remedies like heat therapy, hot water therapy, and massage with ointment to get instant relief. If you do not have any acute or chronic condition, you will not have to go beyond this stage of treatment, in most cases. In a chronic or acute condition, your consultant may advise you to take a few tests like blood test, urine test, MRI of lower back, ultrasound test of abdomen and others to diagnose the reason for your back pain more conclusively.

If you follow the adage 'prevention is better than cure' and take some preventive measures like yoga to control back pain in the initial stage, then you can quickly overcome this demon which adversely affects your daily routine if not tackled properly. Yoga for back pain is akin to aspirin for headache. You should start yoga exercises the moment you decide to get pregnant and continue with your exercises until the last month. Besides yoga, you should also take a nutritious diet to aid muscle development and avoid excess fat around your waist to keep the muscle pain at arm's length during pregnancy.
